Who does the church belong to?

Today I got to talk to a friend that is going to be pastor of a church. I was partly disgusted with the condition that the church was left by the former pastor. I don't understand the thought-process of guys who go into a church with an agenda other than God's glory. Where do we get off thinking that the church is something that we concoct or create? The church is the bride of Christ. He created it and it functions for His glory. I know that my friend is going to do a great job of leading those people to the throne of God. I can't wait to hear about all that God does there.
