Leadership Lessons

On Mondays, you can usually find me in seminary classes. I am working on my MDiv through New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. This past Monday was a special treat. Rick Lance (executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions) shared with us in a chapel service. I thought that I would share some of the leadership thoughts with you that he shared with us.

1 Thessalonians 2:7-12
How should we lead?
1. Love like a mother (v7). There is no greater love (humanly speaking) than that of a mother. As leaders, we need to love the people who we are leading and be ready to nurture them.

2. Labor like a brother (v9). As leaders, we need to realize that no one person can do it all. We need to learn to work together. Too many times, the Church is divided because we are competing with one another instead of working together for the Kingdom.

3. Live like believers (v10). A lot of the ridicule against the church could be hushed if the church would just simply live like our Lord told us to. The best form of teaching is that of example.

4. Lead like a father (v11-12). Many times a father is leading and not even knowing it. A child will copy the way a father walks, talks, or does certain things. As leaders, we need to see those who are following as children and be careful in what example we give them to follow.
