College Bible Study

Last night we hosted the college bible study from our church at our house.  It was a great time of getting together and eating some of Naomi's famous spaghetti.  Since I am the student minister at our church, I am responsible for the middle school, high school, and college ministries.  That is so much to do that one person cannot effectively do it.  That's why I have handed the college ministry mainly to a great couple who have proven to be a Godsend.  This couple has done so awesome in leading the college ministry.  They have come up with a great ministry plan for the college students that involves discipleship bible studies and mission/service projects on a continuous basis.

The college bible study has been going through a book called "Tough Sayings of Jesus."  This has turned out to be a great discussion starter.  They have done the last two at our house and we've had the opportunity to sit in and see what was going on.  I was greatly encouraged to by last night.  It reminded me of a couple of different things:

  1. Don't forget to pour into others and let them lead.  We can't do it all ourselves.  As a minister, our primary duty is to train believers to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12).

  2. Don't be afraid to look into the "uneasy" sayings and teachings of Jesus.  There are just some things that Jesus said and taught that don't seem to fit into what most of us have been taught.  We need to make sure that what we're being taught is the actual teachings of Jesus and not just the thoughts of someone.

Anthony - So glad you guys are enjoying Tough Sayings. Thanks for picking it up. I also noticed you're in B-ham - got great memories of there from my time at Beeson.
